TCC 5-5 Talking QR Codes

April is the month with the QR code and Plickers for Tech Infusion. The article Classroom Tech Infusion for April was in issue 5-4 of TCC and the 2 or 3 posts ago. But in pursuing some of the research I made another discovery about what QR codes can do. Did you know they will talk? Because the blog post I worked from had several boards among its resources I ventured into Pinterest world and there it was...Teaching with Nancy had posted 2 tutorials for making code that talks when scanned. Nancy Alvarez has videos using QR Voice and Vocaroo on this Pinterest board. I have used Vocaroo previously and tried QR Voice successfully at home. They both change the  audio file into a QR code.  One of Nancy’s suggestions was beginning  letter sounds added to alphabet flash cards.

Another post from Tammy Worchester’s blog, Tammy’s Technology Tips for Teachers suggests Record mp3 and Audacity to provide the audio file and then makes the QR code from a URL using online code makers likekaywa, QRhacker, or goQR or by using a spreadsheet in Google Drive to batch generate the codes. (This link is to another post of Tammy's with directions for how to do this.) At this time there is a problem with the code from Record mp3’s recording, and she is looking for another recorder. (I suggested QR Voice.) Another option might be iPadio which makes podcasts by recording with your phone, but also allows you to link to the file on the broadcast page. The mp3 file needs a URL to use these QR code tools. Her suggestions for uses are a book review code inside a book’s cover, a code sent home with a first grader reading, or spoken QR codes with art on display giving the artist’s insight.  Tammy gave permission for using one of her samples on the printed version, but I didn't ask about here. Thanks again to her for that kindness. Since I didn't ask to post it here is one I made from a podcast during Technology Boot Camp.
I am not featuring the tutorials here since both posts give that information...iPadio is the only material added by me and a how-to video is linked here, (This is a very early trial video using Jing to do a screen capture video. You can now do this from Power Point.)
